First beam test of the Frankfurt prototype for the CBM TRD

چکیده
As one of the key components in the CBM experiment, the Transition Radiation Detector (TRD) will play a significant role in the particle identification. A fast detector with double sided readout chambers[1] and a ALICE type of detector with both drift and amplification regions have been designed for the circumstance of high particle rates. We propose to build a fast detector with an amplification region only. Simulation studies combining dE/dx and transition radiation show that such a simple detector can fullfil the requirement of particle identification[2]. If such design can be realized and verified by more sophiscated studies and beam tests, it will noticeably reduce the cost and simplify the construction.

High efficiency TRD for CBM in test beam and simulation
The CBM (Compressed Baryonic Matter) experiment is designed as a fixed target experiment, in which a TRD shall provide tracking of all charged particles, electron identification and discrimination against a large pion background. In order to fulfill these tasks in the context of high count rates of up to 150 kHz/cm and high particle multiplicities, we constructed TRD prototypes based on a symme...

Fast Analog Signal Processor FASP-0.1 [1, 2] is a prototype ASIC designed at NIPNE for HCR-TRD having in mind the CBM experiment at FAIR. In this contribution we report on relevant measured parameters of ASIC analog channels and a FEE based on FASP, designed and built for in-beam tests of our HCR-TRD prototypes [3]. ASIC measured parameters [4, 5] Quiescent supply current (VD = 3.3V): 30mA ±1mA...

The Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at FAIR at the GSI is a dedicated heavy-ion experiment. It is designed to study strongly interacting matter in ultrarelativistic heavy ion-collisions and to explore the QCD phase diagram of nuclear matter. CBM consists of several detectors, one of them the Transition Radiation Detector (TRD) providing particle tracking and electron identification....
متن کاملFirst test of a prototype CBM silicon detector system in a proton beam at GSI
In September 2008, the CBM collaboration performed the first essential test of two prototype detector systems in a 2.5 GeV proton beam at GSI. The experiment at the HTD beam line in Cave C comprised prototype micro-strip detectors of the Silicon Tracking System, and gas-electronmultiplier (GEM) detectors. The detectors were coupled to a self-triggering front-end electronics and data acquisition...
متن کاملTwo-dimension position sensitive Transition Radiation Detector in beam- tests using new Fast Analog Signal Processor (FASP)
The new two-dimension position sensitive TRD prototype architecture for CBM experiment developed by us is based on diagonally split rectangular pads of the read-out electrode [1]. The choice of triangular-pad geometry allows for position determination in both coordinates: across and along the pads, respectively. The TRD prototype used in the present tests has a readout electrode of 25 μm thickn...
